Preliminary Info Qs
  • What is meant by animal rights?
  • -Animal rights means that animals deserve
consideration of what is in their best
interestsit means recognizing that animals are
not ours to use for food, clothing,
    entertainment, or experimentation. (Peta.org)
  • An animals inability to understand and adhere to
our rules is as irrelevant as that of a child or
mentally challenged person. These people may not
be able to comprehend rules, but that does not
negate the obligation of a civilized society to
    protect them.
  • Breeding animals for a certain purpose only
changes humans attitude toward them it does not
change their biological capacity to feel pain and
    fear.
  • Have you ever been to a slaughterhouse? If not,
how do you know what youre talking about?
  • - It is not necessary to observe animal abuse
firsthand to be able to criticize it anymore than
one has to personally experience rape or watch a
child being abused to criticize those practices.

What is foxhunting?
Fox Hunting is a type of hunting where trained
dogs pursue a prey animal, which is traditionally
the red fox seen here. Proponents and
participants view it as a crucial part of rural
history and culture in the UK and Ireland, vital
for conservation, and a method of pest control.
Those who support animal rights see it as a cruel
and unnecessary sport.

History Of Foxhunting
  • In Britain, hunting with hounds was popular in
Celtic Britain before the Romans arrived, using
    the Agassaei breed.
  • The earliest known attempt to hunt a fox with
hounds was in Norfolk, England in 1534, where
farmers began chasing down foxes with their dogs
    as pest control
  • Fox hunts are unfair Horse can run up to 50mph,
foxes can only run at 29mps (max speed).
  • Fox Hunting is usually undertaken with a pack of
scent hounds, the two main types of hounds are
the English foxhound and the American foxhound.
  • Some chases are conducted
  • on foot.

The legality of Foxhunting
  • Originally, Prime Minister Tony Blair refused to
ban foxhunting in the UK due to fears it would
harm his re-election. MPs did not support his
    decision to delay his choice.
  • Foxhunting with hounds was banned in the UK in
    February of 2005
  • Scotland banned foxhunting back in 2002
  • The ban in England is also the law in Wales
  • Many hunts still are carried out illegally.

Other Info.
  • The main season starts in November and continues
through to April and even May in some areas of
the country. At this time, many of the vixens are
    pregnant.
  • Foxes who take refuge below ground are often dug
out and shot or chased into the jaws of waiting
    hounds.
  • Hunts usually continue until either the fox
evades the hounds, goes to ground inside a
burrow or is overtaken and usually killed by the
    hounds.
  • In the UK, where the fox goes to ground, terriers
may be entered into the earth in order to locate
the fox so that is can be dug out and killed.
  • A social ritual that follows the hunt involved
blooding, smearing the blood of the kill on the
    newly initiated hunt follower.
