• The battle of Marathon took place in 490 BC. The
  battle was between the Athenians and the
  Persians. The Persians come from a country, which
  is now modern day Turkey. The Persians tried to
  attack Greece because they wanted more land.

• The Athenians knew that they couldnt fight the
  battle themselves , so they sent there best
  runner called Pheidippides to run all the way to
  Sparta, the best fiercest city in Greece .

• It took a whole day for Pheidippides to reach
  Sparta but they told Pheidippides that they
  wouldn't help the Athenians. So Pheidippides had
  to run all the way back to Marathon. On the way
  back from Sparta Pheidippedes met the God Pan
  who was God of the woods

• Pan said that he would help the Greeks defeat the
  Persians. They got to Marathon and were in the
  battle they fought against the Persians for a
  long time.

• The battle raged on for weeks but eventually the
  Greeks weakening and then they won the war
  against Persia. Then they had big celebrations .

• The Greeks have won the war. Pheidippedes ran al
  the way to Athens to tell the king that the
  Greeks have won the war, but when he got there he
  dropped down dead.
