• The first commonly used telecommunication
  activity.
• Similar to Pen-pals.
• Includes Open discussions, language studies,
  town-twinning, cultural exchanges.
• Often requires much teacher time for management.

Global Classrooms

• Two or more classrooms located anywhere in the
  world study a common topic together.
• Currently the most popular type of educational
  telecomputing project.
• More topically focused than keypal projects.

Electronic Appearances

• E-mail, newsgroups, electronic bulletin boards,
  and chat rooms can host a special guest.
• May be done asynchronously (most common) or
• Done in real time (chat).

Electronic Mentoring

• Specialists from universities, businesses,
  government or other schools serve as electronic
  mentors to students.
• Students can also serve as mentors to other
  students.

Question-and-Answer Service

• Ask an Expert
• Questions are posted or e-mailed to experts in a
  field.

Impersonations

• One or more of the participants is in
  character.
• Examples include letters to Santa, characters in
  historical settings.
