Configuration Session Agenda

• Configure for Windows XP Classic View
• Register wireless and wired MAC addresses
• Rename Admin account to match IU Username
• Rename machine name to KSB network standard
• Pass out rebuild DVDs for standard machines
• Install network printer(s)
• Demonstrate accessing mail through web client
• Setup VPN client (non-standard machines)
• Download printer utility, Symantec Antivirus,
  Office 2003 (non-standard machines)

• Notebook computer
• IUB network cable (orange cord w/oversized phone
  plugs on the ends)
• Free today, 10 tomorrow!
• AC adapter
• UITS account information (generated through AMS)

Switching to Windows XP Classic View

• Start Menu Right click, choose PROPERTIES,
  Select Classic Start Menu
• Desktop Right click choose PROPERTIES
  select Windows Classic (Modified) Theme
• Control Panel Choose classic view turn off
  fast user switching under USER ACCOUNTS

DHCP Registration

• http//dhcp.indiana.edu
• Need to register both wired and wireless network
  adapters
• Register wireless first (make sure cable is
  unplugged)
• Disable wireless (Control Panel Network)
• Plug cable in and register wired network adapter
• Dont forget to re-enable wireless connection
• This is an annual registration process
  (typically) that requires 10 minutes for
  activation, which is necessary for IUB network
  access

Notebook Computer Setup and Maintenance

• Change Administrator Password
• Password your password Note 4-alpha, 2
  numeric, 2-alpha
• Rename Notebook Administrator Account to Match IU
  Username
• Change Notebook Computer Name Reboot
• bl-bus-username

• NOTE Only standard notebook computer users
  should take re-build DVDs
• Standard notebook computers include the following
  units
• Dell 610 units purchased through KSB website
  connection
• IBM T42 units purchased through Bell Tech.Logix
• HP NX6110 units purchased through Bell Tech.Logix

How to Check E-mail

• Use Outlook Web Access (OWA) Outlook client
  will be configured in Orientation session on
  Monday, August 15th use web client to check
  mail until then
• Web address http//www.exchange.iu.edu
• Use IU credentials to authenticate

How to Install Network Printers

• Make sure you have authenticated through the VPN
• Double click on Printer Locator icon on desktop
• Login (username password)
• Choose Business Grad from Building drop-down
• Find the desired printer in the list of STC
  printer(s)
• Click Add Printer
• If prompted login again (password)
• Check status at bottom of dialog box to see if
  printer was installed. Repeat for each printer.

  January
