Description
  • This work focuses on defining the methods that
are needed to provide a read-only service
specification better known as the Metadata Query
Service (MQS). The MQS will provide a way to
access the information in a metadata registry in
    a well-defined way.

3
Project Goals
  • Add methods to the X3.285 Unified Modeling
Language (UML) Model which will become the
normative section for part 3 of the 11179.
  • Develop an Interface Definition Language (IDL)
read-only specification based on the methods
defined on the X3.285 UML model.
  • Identify additional attributes.

4
Benefits
  • Methods
  • Specify the operations that an object is prepared
    to perform.
  • IDL
  • Separates the interface from the implementation.
  • Attributes
  • OOAD is iterative and as new things are
discovered they need to be reflected back into
the model that will potentially make the model
    more complete.

5
Tasks
Parallel
Current
  • Develop Use-Cases.
  • Align the use cases with the UML model of the
    11179.
  • Incorporate Use-Cases into the informative
    section of the draft.
  • Prioritize 11179 into areas of most importance.
  • Develop the IDL and incorporate into the
    normative section of the draft.
  • Test IDL against the use cases and model.
  • Engage Local International Participation.
  • Establishing Liaison relationships with Object
    Management Group (OMG).

6
Schedule

    1998)
  • Editing session. (February 9-11, 1999 Washington
    DC)
  • Send NWI to SC32 to then be forwarded to JTC1.
    (February 12, 1999 Washington DC)
