1
Mr. Guzzios Expectations, Policies Procedures
  • A Short Refresher with Changes...

2
Expectations Mr. Gs 5 Ps.
  • In addition to meeting all of the expectations
outlined in the RPS Middle School Handbook, all
students in my classes are expected to be
  • Punctual This means being seated and working on
the Do-Now as soon as you get to class.
  • Prepared You should have your books, paper,
pens, binder, and assignments ready each day.
  • Patient Be tolerant and respectful towards
classmates, adults, and the school environment.
  • Positive Maintain a good attitude and
contribute to individual and group success.
  • Polite Be courteous towards all fellow students
    and adults.

3
Policies Procedures
  • To do anything in life successfully, you must
follow procedures. A procedure explains how to do
    something.
  • Because of procedures, people know that they
shouldnt cut in line, or run red lights, or eat
    soup with their hands.
  • Procedures help us get along in the world. They
allow us to do things smoothly and efficiently.
  • By following the procedures outlined here, our
class will run smoothly and you will learn more
    effectively.

4
How to Enter the Room
  • Do not enter the classroom unless you are ready
    to learn!!!
  • Quietly find your seat, and make sure you are
    prepared for class.
  • Do you have paper, books, pencils, pens,
    notebook, homework?
  • Take out your materials, check the agenda the
itinerary, and wait for further instructions.

5
When You Are Tardy
  • Sign in and quietly find your seat.
  • If you have a pass, leave it on the clip-board.
  • Should you need help, raise your hand and wait
    for my assistance.
  • Do not call out, or bother a neighbor.
  • Being tardy more than once in a 6-day cycle will
    result in an automatic detention.

6
When You Are Absent
  • Check the file bins before or after class for any
    hand-outs and assignments you missed.
  • Bins are labeled Odds for Days 1, 3, 5 and
    Evens for Days 2, 4, 6.
  • Should you need further assistance, check with me
or a classmate before or after class.
  • You can also check my website.

7
Handing In Assignments
  • All classwork and homework should be placed in
    your class periods bin.
  • All homework is due before class.
  • All classwork is due by the end of class.
  • It is your responsibility to make sure your
assignments make it into the bin.
  • I am no longer going to ask you for your
    assignments.
  • Make sure you turn them in!!!

8
Headings
  • All assignments require a heading, which
    includes
  • A title identifying the work
  • Your name.
  • The date.
  • The class period
  • Period and either Odds for Days 1, 3, 5 or
    Evens for Days 2, 4, 6.
  • No credit will be given for work turned in
    without a name.

9
Sample heading
  • Your Name
  • January 28, 2008
  • Period 1-Odds
  • Assignment Title

10
Using the Restroom
  • When you need to go, dont raise your hand
simply take the pass, sign out, and go.
  • No restroom use during instruction!!! If I am
    speaking, you may not go.
  • Only one person may use the restroom at a time.
  • 5 MINUTE MAX! Note the time when you leave, and
dont forget to sign in when you return.
  • Taking more than 5 minutes, and failing to sign
in and out properly will land you in the SinBin.
  • Remember, using the restroom during class is a
privilege, not a right. If you abuse it, you will
    lose it.

11
Asking Responding to Questions
  • Do not call out. Raise your hand.
  • Do not make noises or gestures that might
    distract others.
  • Expect to be called on even if you didnt raise
    your hand.
  • No opting out.
  • Since your success is important to me, I will
count on you to give the right answer even if
you dont know it the first time.

12
Listening
  • Look at the speaker whoever he or she is.
  • Take notes when necessary.
  • Ask sensible questions and make appropriate
    comments.
  • Keep good posture.
  • Pay attention even when youre not involved.
  • You might be next!

13
Sharpening Pencils
  • Only one person at the sharpener at a time.
  • Please, try to take care of this before class, as
you will not be able to use the sharpener during
    instruction.
  • Keep a back-up pencil at the ready, just in case.

14
Getting Tissue
  • If you need one, quietly get one.
  • If you think you will need tissues throughout the
class, take enough at the beginning as you will
not be allowed to get one during instruction.
  • Again, only one person up out of his or her seat
    at a time.

15
Working in a Group
  • Though different group assignments will require
you to do different things, the following basic
    guidelines apply
  • Do the work Group assignments are not an
opportunity to talk about your new phone, or last
    nights Red Sox game.
  • Participate you must contribute in order for
you and your group to succeed!
  • Move into your assigned groups quietly and
    calmly.
  • Use your inside voice.

16
Emergency Situations
  • Should the fire alarm ring, leave your things
here and quietly exit the building.
  • Follow the established exit route and meet at the
    established location.
  • STAY TOGETHER!
  • Dont walk too far ahead or too far behind the
    rest of the class.
  • It is important that we leave and return as a
    group.
  • A fire drill is not the time to meet with friends
from other classes, use the bathroom, or go get a
    drink.
  • If I cant find you when we get outside, or when
we get back to class, I will put you in for a
    cut.
  • Get right back to business upon returning to
    class.

17
When I Need Your Attention
  • When I need to get the attention of the entire
class, I will raise my hand. This is your signal
    to
  • Stop what you are doing.
  • Focus on me.
  • Raise your hand as a signal to others to do the
    same.
  • Please do not call out or yell for people to be
quiet as that is disrespectful and
    counterproductive.

18
When You Need Materials
  • It is your responsibility to come to class
prepared each and every day. However, should you
run out of paper, or have your pen run out of
    ink, you should
  • Raise your hand and quietly wait for my
    acknowledgement.
  • Do not ask a classmate or call out.
  • REMEMBER you are responsible for being prepared
    each and every day.
  • If you come to class unprepared, your name will
    go in the SinBin.

19
Using Downtime
  • If you find yourself with any extra time in
    class, use it wisely
  • Do not talk to a neighbor, as this may disrupt
    those who are still working.
  • Read, do work from another class, or see me.
Well find something you can do.
  • I expect you to keep learning until you are
    dismissed.

20

    conditions
