Title: Physician Office Integration

1
Physician Office Integration
  • Electronic Delivery of LAB Results and RAD/Health
    Record Reports to Physicians Office

2
What is Physician Office Integration?
  • Electronic delivery of LAB, RAD and Health
Records results from Interior Health to
physician office electronic medical record (EMR)
    systems
  • Currently there has been 1.6 million
results/reports delivered to over 200 Physicians
across 80 clinics through out the IHA service
    area
  • Option to halt printing of paper results
reports for LAB and RAD only

3
How will this benefit the Physician?
  • Future
  • Immediate delivery of clinic data to EMR
  • Chart, Trend and use HL7 standards formatting
  • This will save as much as 2-3 hours of filing
every day. Our MOAs can then focus this valuable
time on improving patient care and education.
Finally, the power of a paperless EHR is being
    leveraged.
  • Dr. Adrian Bak, Gastroenterologist

4
What type of results are being delivered?
5
What are the requirements for participation?
  • Physician must have EMR software and have access
    to the Internet
  • Configuration is required by the vendor
  • Interior Health will work with all EMR vendors

6
What is the cost to physicians?
  • Interior Health does not charge physicians for
    this interface.

7
What if I dont have an EMR?
  • Physician Information Technology Office (PITO)
will contribute up to 70 towards the cost of an
    EMR system, implementation and training.
  • The successful PITO vendors are listed, however
Interior Health will interface with all EMR
    vendors.
  • EMIS Inc.
  • Intrahealth Canada Ltd.
  • Med Access Inc.
  • Wolf Medical Systems
  • Osler Systems Management

8
Who are we working with?
9
Is the system secure?
  • All data is secured using 128bit SSL encryption.
This is the same encryption used in banking,
    credit processing, government and military
    systems.

10
How do physicians participate?
  • Contact your EMR vendor and ask them when they
will have the Interior Health Electronic Lab, RAD
and Health Record Reports interfaces ready for
    implementation.
  • If they have it, let them know you would like to
    start receiving the results/reports
    electronically.
  • Visit http//www.interiorhealth.ca/poi to
    activate

11
How it works..
  • The Iatrics interface listens for results from
Meditech and constructs an HL7 message.
  • LAB Trigger LAB message has results entered
    this is the triggering event
  • RAD Trigger RAD when a report is filed signed
  • OE Trigger When a report is filed signed
  • If a report is amended then a new message is
triggered once the report is signed again

12
How it works.
  • Mirth (an open source, HL7 Integration Engine)
    listens for messages from Iatrics.
  • The incoming Mirth channel picks up the message
as HL7 and then routes it to the file destination
    channel in encapsulated xml format.
  • The file destination channel then routes the xml
file to the clinic directory. The xml file is now
available on an IHA web server.
  • The EMR software queries the IHA Web Server using
a secure channel (https). Once the LAB/RAD and
Health Records reports are downloaded, the vendor
verifies, acknowledges and imports the results
    into the EMR.
