History of the Trauma Informed Care Initiative

    impact of chronic stress, abuse, and neglect on
    the developing brain
  • Transformation of the mental health and substance
    abuse system of care

Floridas Evolution
  • Seclusion and restraint reduction activities in
    Florida beginning in 2003
  • Disaster grants for crisis counselors in FEMA
    centers and post disaster counseling for
    survivors
  • Awareness and efforts on the part of a number of
    agencies to address trauma but not in a
    coordinated way

    aid of a technical assistance grant from National
    Technical Assistance Center (NCTIC) on February
    3, 2009

    members met on February 4

Statement of Purpose
  • Individuals we serve often have experienced
    trauma that affects their current development and
    adjustment. We are resolved that in Florida,
    trauma will be recognized and addressed through

    interventions designed to promote healing and
    foster hope and resilience.
