Using media to aid curriculum development
  • Video to improve English.
  • By acting, children learn to read and write

Animation
  • We are in the process of using Animation to teach
    subjects such as English,PSHE and Art.
  • All of this can be played back to all the pupils
    in school and the children take great pride in
    the work they produce.

Music Software
  • Pupils use music software to score there own
    video and animation.
  • This has proven to be very successful and pupils
    are amazed with the end results and its ease of
    use.

Whiteboards
  • Every teaching base is fitted with a white board.
  • We use Active boards and Smart boards as active
    boards are better for the older pupils, and smart
    boards are more tactile for younger pupils.
  • We encourage the pupils to use white boards as
    this helps improve their confidence to present
    their work in front of the class.

  • Because of the diverse software on the white
    boards and pcs. e.g. phonics, interactive big
    books, science, SIRs etc. we have found it
    encourages pupils to help one another when it
    comes to group tasks and helps to enhance pupils
    understanding of software and the technology
    around them.

SIRS Software
  • This is an individualised learning system.
  • It covers all aspects of the national curriculum
    and the software ranges from primary to A level.
  • Areas covered are Literacy,Numeracy M.F.L and
    Science.
  • With excellent graphics and ease of use it makes
    this software appealing to staff and pupils alike
    and is a wonderful whiteboard resource.

Successmaker
  • This is another individualised learning system we
    use in school we have been using this system
    longer than the SIRS system. We bring in our
    local primary schools to access this software and
    have found it helps them progress faster and also
    improves the behaviour of some of their pupils.

Our Mac Suite
  • This encourages creativity and allows pupils to
    experiment with new ideas.
  • The suite is used to teach entry level media
    courses to our pupils and pupils from other
    schools.

Editing Films
  • The combination of good quality editing equipment
    and chroma screen technology allows pupils to
    achieve some stunning effects.

  • This year we held our Awards Ceremony we had
    three Film Nominations.
  • Awards were given to
  • Best Film.
  • Best Actor.
  • Best Actress
  • Best Sound Track
  • All films were viewed by a panel of three
    judges and awards give for the four categories.

Digital Still Cameras
  • We use digital cameras in a variety of different
    ways.
  • For recording a pictorial record of work
    experience.
  • For life skills projects on allotments etc.
  • For projects with the community and after school
    clubs.
  • For use as an assessment tool.
  • Every class should have one.

Technology on Residentials
  • We use our technology on residentials to keep a
    record for school, for assessment, and for our
    pupils and parents and carers.
  • This also helps improve behaviour as pupils see
    how much fun the pupils on residentials have and
    know they need to attain levels within school to
    be allowed to participate.

Catering Courses
  • Another vocational course we run in school is
    catering and hospitality.
  • Our pupils and pupils from other schools take
    advantage of courses in our catering facility
    this allows pupils to work in the centre and
    helps to build self esteem.

Email
  • Every person in school has their own email
    address.
  • They are encouraged to use their email within
    school and we are in the process of partnering
    with a school in South Africa to forge links
    between pupils via email etc.
  • These links with schools around the world will
    give our pupils a good insight as to how other
    pupils view their lives and surroundings.

The V.L.E
  • Our VLE is set up so pupils can access their
    files and emails from home etc. This would allow
    our pupils to pick up work they may have missed
    if they are absent for any reason.
  • It also allows parents to access the system to
    see the work their children produce.
  • It enables pupils to complete extra work using
    e.g. SAM learning.
  • It is also our link with the community and allows
    them to access courses we are hosting and helps
    keep them up to date with events in school.

Tablet PCs
  • Tablet pcs are being used by staff and pupils
    for data logging during PE lessons off site and
    data is saved on return to school.

Touch Screens
  • The touch screens encourage the pupils and
    Visitors to use ICT at any time.

The Rear Screen Projector
  • Pupil work and conference information can be
    viewed on the atrium screen.

Wireless Technology
  • Wireless technology gives our pupils any time
    anywhere classrooms.
  • Pupils can also use laptops anywhere in school
    without being tied to a class base.
