Title: PRIDE
1 PRIDE RIGHTEOUSNESS
2What Does Pride Do?
- (Pro 1618-19) Pride goeth before destruction,
and an haughty spirit before a fall. Better it
is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than
to divide the spoil with the proud. - (Psa 736) Therefore pride compasseth them about
as a chain violence covereth them as a garment. - (Pro 112) When pride cometh, then cometh shame
3What Does Pride Do? (cont.)
- (Dan 520) But when his heart was lifted up, and
his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from
his kingly throne, and they took his glory from
him. - (Eze 1649-52) Behold, this was the iniquity of
thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and
abundance of idleness was in her and in her
daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of
the poor and needy. (50) And they were haughty,
and committed abomination before me therefore I
took them away as I saw good. (51) Neither hath
Samaria committed half of thy sins but thou hast
multiplied thine abominations more than they, and
hast justified thy sisters in all thine
abominations which thou hast done. (52) Thou
also, which hast judged thy sisters, bear thine
own shame for thy sins that thou hast committed
more abominable than they they are more
righteous than thou yea, be thou confounded
also, and bear thy shame, in that thou hast
justified thy sisters.
4What Does Pride Do? (cont.)
- (Jer 4916) Thy terribleness hath deceived thee,
and the pride of thine heart, O thou that
dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest
the height of the hill though thou shouldest
make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring
thee down from thence, saith the LORD. - (Oba 13) The pride of thine heart hath deceived
thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the
rock, whose habitation is high that saith in his
heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground? (4)
Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and
though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence
will I bring thee down, saith the LORD.

7Maslows Hierarchy of Needs
8Esteem (Pride??)
- Ego (Self Esteem) Needs
- Means having a healthy pride in ones self. The
need for self-respect, and respect from others
shows up at this level. - Most human beings need to feel not only just
loved, but needed by their community. We need to
feel that we can contribute something worthwhile.
For some, this need for esteem will be satisfied
through great achievementOthers may choose to
help in noble causes
9Self Actualization (Pride??)
- Self Actualization (Fulfillment) Needs
- includes purpose, personal growth and realization
of one's potentials. This is the point where
people start to become fully functional, acting
purely on their own volition and having a healthy
personality. - Achieved when one can embody the highest
potential that s/he is capable of reaching. Once
all the other needs are taken care of, there
remains a yearning to explore and to actualize
our individual talents and gifts, to be
expressive, creative, dynamic selves with the
freedom to master our fate or perhaps to
experience that overwhelming and mystical sense
of being in perfect harmony and at one with the
universe
