Long Quotations
  • Citing more than a sentence, or at least 40 words
is called a block quote. NO QUOTATION MARKS USED
  • Example
  • Adventure seekers are sure to enjoy exploring
the sight of the wrecked steamboat complete with
    robbers and murders
  • I was just a-biling with curiousity and I says
to myself, Tom Sawyer wouldnt back out now, and
so I wont either Im agoing to see whats
going on here. So I dropped on my hands and
knees, in the little passage, and crept aft in
the dark , til there warnt but about one
stateroom betwist me and the cross-hall of the
texas. Then, in there I see a man stretched on
the floor and tied hand and foot, and two men
standing over him, and one of them had a dim
lantern in his hand, and the other one had a
    pistol. (Twain, 1994, p. 51)

Short Quotations
  • Citing at least a sentence (up to 3 lines) USE
    QUOTATION MARKS
  • Formula Example Surround the material from your
notes with quotation marks (authors last name,
    year of publication, page number).
  • Example I was just a-biling with curiousity
and I says to myself, Tom Sawyer wouldnt back
out now, and so I wont either Im going to see

Exception to the In-Text Documentation Rule
  • When you credit your author in your sentence, you
DONT have to include his/her name inside your
    parenthetical documentation.
  • Example
  • According to Twain, Huck is not convinced he
faked his death because he says, I did wish Tom
Sawyer was there, I knowed he would take and
interest in this kind of business, and throw in
the fancy touches (1994, p.25). While visiting
the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, be sure to
stop by Paps cabin to see the blood stained
walls and the axe with Hucks hair in the same
condition as when Huck left it.

11
I only documented inside my brochure and now I
have a tummy ache because I didnt create a
References Page box.
12
References Box (Receipt)
  • This is a separate box on the back of your
    brochure!
  • The box is titled References.
  • The references box includes
    works cited entries, which are
    formatted to
    detail/ include
    important source information.
  • Entries should be organized in
    alphabetical order starting with
    the first
    letter of the entry.
  • Entries are double spaced, and a hanging indent
is used to distinguish between multiple entries.

13
So Remember..
  • Each source you cite in the brochure must appear
in your references box, and each work you include
in your references box must appear in your
    brochure.

14
Books
  • Formula
  • Author, A. A. (Year of publication). Title of
    work. Location Publisher.
  • Example
  • Twain, Mark (1994). The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn. New York    Charles L
    Webster and Company.

  • Do Not Pass Go
  • Do Not Collect 200
  • Do Not Think About Turning In Your Brochure
