Overview
  • Redesign Outdoor Master Plan

Background
  • School opened in 2003 with an enrollment of 363
    students
  • No outdoor plan was in place
  • 2004 RVSD installed baseball diamond, soccer
    field, trees and seeded grounds
  • 2005 installed irrigation system
  • 2006 LSC implemented 45 child play area
  • 2008 enrollment 650 students with insufficient
    outdoor activities

Purpose
  • Redesign plan to accommodate the projected
    population of 800 students in the 2010/2011
    school year
  • Complete the plan in the 2009/2010 school year

Objectives - Prioritized
  • Install playground for K 1 and special needs
    students
  • Install playground for Grade 2 8 students
  • Complete asphalt/concrete path system on south
    perimeter of property
  • Fill ditch on east side of the soccer field to
    allow the installation of 3 amphitheaters and 2
    berms with gazebos and trees
  • Remediate the soccer field to the Calgary Minor
    Soccer Associations regulations

Assumptions
  • Remediation of the soccer field will be endorsed
    by the RVSD
  • Requirements gathering is complete

  • Parking and traffic issues/concerns are out of
    scope

IssuesResolved by this plan
  • Kindergarten Area has a drainage issue
  • Soccer field surface is in disrepair
  • Soccer field is not graded in a manner consistent
    with Calgary Minor Soccer Association regulations
  • Path system is not complete
  • Proposed playground area exceeds RVSD guidelines

Risks
  • Irrigation system damage
  • RVSD grading requirement of 2-3 may not allow
    the field to ever meet Calgary Minor Soccer
    Regulations
  • Kindergarten Grade 1 Area will become obsolete
    in 5 years
  • Vandalism

Suggested Motion
  • The LSC approves the project as detailed in the
    "Langdon School Council Playground Committee
    Master Plan Architecture Document version lt1.0gt "
    and requests the Langdon School and RVS develop
    and sign a memorandum of understanding regarding
    this project to enable the Playground Committee
    to commence grant application activities.
