8Our Research
- From our research we found that
- 18 million new mobile phones are purchased
each year - 77 of the population have a mobile phone
- Over ¾ of the population will replace or
upgrade their handset during the next six
months - Only 5 of these new phones are recycled
- 90 million phones are left hiding in cupboards
and drawers
9Toxic Mobiles
What's so bad about them?
10They contain
Nickel
Mercury
Arsenic
Lead
These can be released into the ground
and air when burned or disposed of and
cause threat to living things
11We asked people what they did with their old
mobile phones. This is what people said
12Only 5 of mobile phones get recycled. Imagine
what damage the other 95 is doing to our
atmosphere!
13What we did
- We decided to get the whole school involved in
collecting old mobile phones to be recycled. - We had found a company called Envirofone who
would give us money for the old mobiles. We
decided to donate any money raised to charity. - To get the whole school behind us we made it one
of our house competitions!
