Title: What is a Construct?
1What is a Construct?
2This the Ayers Rock in Australia. It can be
measured.
3It has a location. It has a weight, length,
width, and height. It has a temperature, density,
and a chemical composition.
4But what about love?
5Or motivation?
6La personalidad Personlichkeit
Or personality?
7Or happiness?
8Or satisfaction?
satisfacción, Befriedgung
9These are called constructs and they have to
be assumed from behavior. Generally, they exist
because they help explain behavior under the same
conditions that is different. Motivation
explains why one persons behavior is stronger,
and more focused than another persons.
10These are called constructs They are called
hypothetical constructs because they can only
be hypothesized. Hypothesized and measured by
watching and measuring behavior. This typically
takes multiple measures.
11In practical terms, a construct is defined by how
it is measured. This is called an
Operational Definition.
12Intelligence could be defined as how fast (RT) a
person solves a puzzle.
13Or intelligence could be defined as not getting
cheated at the car dealership.
14When you meet someone for the first time how many
constructs do you evaluate? Make a list.
15List as many ways you can think of To measure
how satisfied someone is of a meal that have just
eaten at a restaurant.
