Title: Library Legislative Day
1(No Transcript)
2Library Legislative Day
- Each February, librarians from all across
Missouri gather in Jefferson City for a day of
lobbying.
3Library Legislative Day
- The day begins with an orientation session in the
morning.
4Library Legislative Day
- MLA Lobbyist Randy Scherr and state librarian
Sara Parker get everyone up-to-date on important
bills.
5MLA gives one or two Missouri legislators the
"Francis Bud Barnes Outstanding Legislator
Award."
6Library Legislative Day
- In the afternoon, librarians visit with their own
state representatives and senators, and tell them
about legislative issues of importance to
libraries.
7Library Legislative Day
- When there is time, librarians may stop by the
offices of other legislators who sit on crucial
committees, and leave printed literature about
libraries with their office staff. It is rare to
find a legislator in his or her office, available
for impromptu meetings!
8Library Legislative Day
- In the evening, librarians meet with legislators
at the Jefferson City Country Club and talk about
library issues as they enjoy a buffet dinner
together.
9A good time is had by all.
10Two legislators proudly display their library
cards.
11We hope that after Library Legislative Day,
senators and representatives better understand
libraries needs and feel more confident about
their votes to support us.
12If you are interested in lobbying and library
advocacy, consider taking part in Library
Legislative Day next year.
