• Codes are used to send signals.
• Signals are sent in many different forms.

Telecommunication

• A communication method that uses electromagnetic
  means.
• Analog signals change continuously
• Ex spring scale, alcohol thermometer,
  microphone, etc.
• Digital signals discrete, fixed values
• Ex Morse code, binary code? used by computers,
  CDs, etc.
• Can be sent quickly accurately.

Telecommunication Today

• Optical fibers? hair-thin transparent wire that
  transmit signals using pulses of light.
• Microwave transmission sends messages around the
  world.
• Satellites receive transmit electromagnetic
  waves.
• Communication satellites have geostationary
  orbits (35 880 km at 11050 km/h)

• Sounds are changed from electrical signals and
  electrical signals to sounds.
• Signals can be sent by physical transmission or
  atmospheric transmission.
• Signals modulate carrier waves by amplitude
  modulation (AM) or frequency modulation (FM).
