WHY have Programs?
  • Both the PTA Purpose and Mission Statements
    reflect the need to educate parents and the
    community
  • We are a 501.c3 organization and are tax exempt-
    We are required to have 3 programs for each
    fundraiser
  • Its what PTAs do best, train and educate!

WHO should be included? 
  • Every program should appeal to as many members as
    possible, but may be specific
  • Strive to bring in the community to broaden the
    base.

  • Whats in it for me ?
  • Know your population!

WHAT to do? 
  • K I S S
  • Keep It Super Simple
  • Survey your school- What do you want to know?
    What do they want to know? 
  • Address current issues- what is important?
  • Be time sensitive!  Dont just fill time, but
    accomplish your goals
  • Identify Obstacles- Child Care? Time of day? 
    Conflicts? Language barriers? Transportation?
    Do they feel welcome?
  • Try different formats- speaker/ Panel discussion/
    PowerPoint/ video/ hands on

WHERE the program should be held?
  • School (Have equipment needed)
  • Neighboring School- Partner for a program
  • Local College, Conference Hall, School
    Administration Building- think outside the box!

HOW to do an effective presentation?
  • ENGAGE THE AUDIENCE!
  • Know your stuff! 
  • Be knowledgeable, confident and honest!
  • What is your purpose? 
  • To teach, entertain, enlist.

PLAN, PLAN, PLAN
  • Know your audience, their goals, make-up,
    structure.
  • Prepare-  How will the message be given and what
    is the format?
  • Is there a cost?  Can you afford it?  Will there
    be a charge?
  • Have an outline or an agenda and stick to it!
    Allow time for QA

HOW to do an effective presentation?
  • Fact - People remember 5 from lectures, 10 of
    what they read, 20 of what they hear, 30 of 
    what they see, 50 of what they see and hear and
    discuss, 75 by doing, 90 by teaching others.
  • Fact - Women like stories,
  • Men like numbers

  • Publicize!!!
  • Flyers, marquee, website, newsletter, email,
    phone, posters
  • Have the Principals support /make sure its on the
    yearly agenda
  • Have door prizes or giveaways
  • promote donations from vendors or partners

  • It is better to reach a few, than not to reach
    any at all!
  • PDSA
  • Write thank you notes
  • Do a procedure book!
  • Dont reinvent the wheel
