    Date Declassified

  • Region and Nation(s) Involved
  • Latitude and Longitude of location where first
    classified
  • Current Population Density of the area most
    affected by the hurricane.
  • Include a map showing the area affected by the
    storm (Not A Storm track map, get a blank map of
    the area, it must be legible and have a source
    listed below it.)

Intensity of the Storm
  • What was the Saffir Simpson rating of the storm
    at its maximum value?
  • Describe what the weather conditions are like to
    be classified as that rating.
  • Use your notes and the base statistics for that
    size hurricane.
  • Windspeed, Storm Surge, Surface Pressures, type
    of damage should be included

  • Description of the Storm Track
  • Include the countries passed through and on what
    days it passed through.
  • State which ocean basin was involved
  • Include the current name for the event (Typhoon
    cyclone, hurricane)
  • Describe the location of the landfall and its
    geography.
  • Include a map showing the storms path
  • Be sure to include a source listed below this
    image!

  • Include actual peak values for the following
    variables, and where the storm was when they
    occurred.
  • Storm Surge
  • Sustained Winds
  • Lowest Pressure

  • Describe the type of damage seen in the areas
    most effected
  • Be sure to include where geographically the most
    damage was seen.
  • Include pictures of the damaged area (2 pictures
    no more no less)
  • Explain which factor caused the most damage
    (wind, storm surge, fresh water flooding).

  • Number of People Killed.
  • Be sure to include the geographic location of
    fatalities
  • Describe if/how the geography of the location
    caused people to be put in danger.
  • Include an image (topographic map) of the area
    effected.

  • Size of the area affected.
  • Effect on long term human health.
  • Extent to which area was affected (Give a
    description of the damage sustained)
  • Effect on wildlife and plants.
  • Effect on access to natural resources.
  • Effect on surface and ground water.
  • These represent the types of things you should be
    looking for. You may not find all of them for
    your hurricane.

  • List the amount of money lost due to damage from
    the storm.
  • Effects on Tourism.
  • Effects on Agriculture.
  • Cost to rebuild infrastructure (roads, power
    lines etc).
  • Long term health costs
  • These represent the types of things you should be
    looking for. You may not find all of them for
    your hurricane.

Preparation for Anticipated Storm
  • Provide a timeline of warnings or watches listed
    for the storm
  • Include the locations the warnings/watches were
    being issued for.
  • Describe steps taken by locals to ready their
    property/homes for the storm
  • Describe whether or not a mandatory evacuation
    was order.
  • And if so why or if not why not?

Government and International Response
  • Explain what the response immediately following
    the hurricane was by the governments of the
    affected areas.
  • This should include, local, state (if in USA),
    and national government.
  • Describe the response of the international
    community to the hurricane

History of Previous Hurricanes
  • List any other hurricanes that may have affected
    this area.
  • Include a description of these storms Saffir
    Simpson value, and the number of people killed.
  • Include an estimate of the total cost in damages
    to the area by these storms.

  • List any an ALL sources used for your power
    point.
  • Include Websites, Book Titles with Authors,
    Teachers, or any other resource.
