TECHNOLOGY THROUGH PROJECTS

2
CTAP 295 EXPECTATIONS...
  • We contacted our local representative to find out
about the class. We were told that we
  • all would benefit -- novice to expert
  • could use PCs or Macs, our choice
  • would learn basic computer skills, word
    processing, desktop publishing, data base,
    spreadsheet, maintenance, email...

3
ACTUAL LEARNING.
  • We were in for a surprise. We learned
  • we were suppose to know the basics,
  • how to deal with frustration,
  • web page lesson design,
  • use of Powerpoint, and spreadsheet.

4
IN REFLECTION.
  • It was difficult to see all the parts and the
best way to combine them. Next time I would
plan and design more on paper before beginning.
  • It takes far more time than I imagined.
  • One must accept the fact that all web sites are
    evolving and under construction.

5
SUCCESSES.
  • students choose lessons on computer or paper.
  • Web lessons are great for individualized
    instruction.
  • Lessons are always available.
  • It is reinforcing to see the standards that go
    with the lesson.

6
SHORTCOMINGS....
  • It would have been better to design the lesson
specifically for our needs and not try to make it
    generic for others to use.
  • I ran out of time to revise it to my
    satisfaction.
  • The topic choices need improvement.
  • The pages need to be reworked to allow better
    printouts.

7
STUDENT DATA.
  • This graph depicts a typical comparison of
average scores achieved by morning and afternoon
    students.
  • Student data is not available at this time.

8
SIGNIFICANCE OF DATA.
  • Many changes are planned
  • Revise the list of topics available.
  • Revise the rubric for continuation, with emphasis
on credits earned instead of grade.
  • Connect more hyperlinks.

9
IN CONCLUSION...
  • I have enjoyed working with colleagues as they
    become empowered with technology.
  • I think this first attempt was a struggle because
much of the material was not available when
needed. The next attempt should run smoother.
  • I think there should be a beginning group (year
    1) and an advanced group (year 2).
