The Practicum Office

• Coordinates all forms needed for Field Placement
• Partners with School Boards for Field Placements
• Provides support to Teacher Candidates, Associate
  Teachers and Faculty Advisors
• Monitors issues during Field Placement
• Reads, edits and approves all Field Experience
  Reports

  experienced teachers
• Allows opportunities to put theory into action
• Provides Teacher Candidates an extended
  opportunity to be part of a school community and
  professional organization

Placement Process

• Requests are submitted to Board staff
• Board staff notify Practicum Coordinator of
  Placements
• Assistants enter the information in the Field
  Experience Portal
• FE I placements will be released to you on August
  22, 2008 via the FE Portal
• Policies and Procedures are contained in the
  Field Placement Handbook

• FE I Sept. 2 - 5, 2008
• - Oct 14 - Oct 31, 2008
• FE II Nov 24 Dec 12, 2008
• FE III Mar 26 May 6, 2009

Field Experience Reports

• 2 reports for each Field Experience
• Submitted electronically to Practicum Office
• Read and Approved by Practicum Coordinator
• Reports are released to you through the Field
  Experience Portal

Field Experience

• Occurs on Fridays some compulsory, some
  Professional Development Days, some study days
• Linked to professionalism in all courses
• Uses the Field Experience Guidebook as a
  reference

Practicum Committee

• Reviews your progress to ensure that you are
  eligible to go out on your Field Placements
• If you fail a placement then you apply to the
  Practicum Committee
• Referrals are made by professors instructors
  and this often pertains to professionalism

Faculty Advisors

• Consist of full and part-time Faculty members
• Sessional FAs also hired
• Former educators, ATs, administrators

Faculty Advisor Role

• Maintain contact with the Teacher Candidates and
  Associate Teachers
• Conduct on-site school visits
• Provide professional guidance to Teacher
  Candidates
• Help solve any problems that may occur in Field
  Experience placements
• Complete a Faculty Advisor Field Experience Final
  Report
