• I think that the theme of the story is- Even an

Plot

• Sterling finds a baby raccoon in a tree, with no
  mother around.
• He takes it home to keep as a pet, and decides to
  name him Rascal.
• They become best friends and go everywhere
  together.
• Rascal gets into everything, so the neighbors
  want him to leave.
• Sterling has to put Rascal in a cage and keep him
  on a leash.
• Rascal has to be let go and put back in the wild.

Setting

• The setting in this book is at a house near the
  woods. It belongs to Sterling North and his
  father. The house is Victorian style. It sits on
  a hill with other houses. Around it are meadows,
  groves of trees, a stream, a marsh, and a
  vineyard and orchard.

Characters

• Sterling North has blond-brown hair with blue
  eyes, and is tall and skinny. He is intelligent
  because he made a canoe himself. Sterling is also
  caring because he took in a baby raccoon with no
  where else to go. He is the main character.
• Rascal is big (for a raccoon) with black rings
  around his tail and eyes. He is mischievous and
  smart because he can get into things that have
  lids or doors. He is Sterlings raccoon.
• Theo North is Sterlings older sister. She has
  brown hair, brown eyes, and is fairly tall. Theo
  is a neat freak because she always wants Sterling
  and his dad to clean up. Also, she worries about
  Sterling being home by himself while his dad is
  on business trips.

Authors Feelings

• Based on the book I would say that the
  author feels that keeping a raccoon is a
  wonderful experience. The reason that I believe
  that is because in the book he tells how rascal
  and sterling had adventures. Also he probably
  thinks that it is hard. He tells that many of the
  neighbors do not like Rascal so Sterling has to
  keep Rascal out of trouble. Lastly, I think the
  author enjoyed writing about a raccoon because he
  either likes raccoons or had one as a pet.
