    certain
  • and definite that it cannot be either increased
    or
  • diminished. The Confession of Faith, pp. 25-26

TULIPUnconditional election
Justified
  • 29 For those whom He foreknew, He also
    predestined
  • to become conformed to the image of His Son, so
  • that He would be the firstborn among many
    brethren
  • and these whom He predestined, He also called
    and
  • these whom He called, He also justified and
    these
  • whom He justified, He also glorified...Who will
    bring
  • a charge against God's elect? God is the one who
  • justifies
  • Romans 829-30,33

  • Acts 1034 (Romans 211 1 Peter 117)

TULIPUnconditional election
Refuted
  • God's invitation is foolish
  • The Spirit and the bride say, "Come." And let the
    one
  • who hears say, "Come." And let the one who is
    thirsty
  • come let the one who wishes take the water of
    life
  • without cost.
  • Revelation 2217

9
TULIPUnconditional election
Refuted
  • Means that Satan's work unnecessary
  • Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your
    adversary, the
  • devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking
  • someone to devour.
  • 1 Peter 58

10
TULIPUnconditional election
Refuted
  • Makes the "whosoever passages meaningless
  • For God so loved the world, that He gave His only
  • begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall
    not
  • perish, but have eternal life.
  • John 316 (Acts 221 Mark 1615)

11
TULIPUnconditional election
Refuted
  • Salvation is conditional
  • Therefore I said to you that you will die in your
  • sins for unless you believe that I am He, you
    will
  • die in your sins."
  • John 824

12
TULIPUnconditional election
Justified
  • When the Gentiles heard this, they began
    rejoicing
  • and glorifying the word of the Lord and as many
    as
  • had been appointed to eternal life believed.
  • Acts 1348

13
TULIPUnconditional election
Refuted
  • Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said, "It
    was
  • necessary that the word of God be spoken to you
    first
  • since you repudiate it and judge yourselves
    unworthy
  • of eternal life, behold, we are turning to the
    Gentiles.
  • Acts 1346

14
TULIPUnconditional election
Refuted
  • As certain ones judge themselves unworthy
  • of eternal life by their rejection of the
  • gospel Acts 1346
  • So others judge themselves worthy of eternal
  • life by the acceptance of the gospel Acts 1348

15
TULIPUnconditional election
Refuted
  • God has predetermined that a certain class or
  • group of people will be saved---those who
  • obey His will---and our inclusion in that group
  • is up to each one of us.

17
TULIPLimited atonement
Defined
  • Neither are any other redeemed by Christ,
    effectually
  • called, justified, adopted, sanctified, and
    saved, but the
  • elect onlyGod did, from all eternity, decree to
  • justify all the elect and Christ did, in the
    fullness of
  • time, die for their sins and rise again for their
  • justification
  • The Confession of Faith, pp. 29, 81-82

18
TULIPLimited atonement
Justified
  • I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My
  • own know Me, even as the Father knows Me and I
  • know the Father and I lay down My life for the
    sheep.
  • John 1014-15

19
TULIPLimited atonement
Refuted
  • I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My
  • own know Me, even as the Father knows Me and I
  • know the Father and I lay down My life for the
    sheep.
  • I have other sheep, which are not of this fold I
  • must bring them also, and they will hear My
    voice
  • and they will become one flock with one shepherd.
  • John 1014-16

20
TULIPLimited atonement
Refuted
  • To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear
    his
  • voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and
    leads
  • them out. When he puts forth all his own, he goes
  • ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because
    they
  • know his voice.
  • John 103-4

21
TULIPLimited atonement
Refuted
  • Christ's sacrifice universal
  • The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said,
  • "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin
    of
  • the world!
  • John 129
  • and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins
    and
  • not for ours only, but also for those of the
    whole
  • world.
  • 1 John 22

22
TULIPLimited atonement
Refuted
  • Christ's sacrifice universal
  • This is good and acceptable in the sight of God
    our
  • Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to
    come
  • to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one
    God,
  • and one mediator also between God and men, the
  • man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom
    for
  • all, the testimony given at the proper time.
  • 1 Timothy 23-4

23
TULIPLimited atonement
Refuted
  • Christ's sacrifice universal
  • But we do see Him who was made for a little while
  • lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of
    the
  • suffering of death crowned with glory and honor,
    so
  • that by the grace of God He might taste death for
  • everyone.
  • Hebrews 29

24
TULIPLimited atonement
Refuted
  • Christ's sacrifice universal
  • For the love of Christ controls us, having
    concluded
  • this, that one died for all, therefore all died
    and He
  • died for all, so that they who live might no
    longer live
  • for themselves, but for Him who died and rose
    again
  • on their behalf.
  • 2 Corinthians 514-15
