4Colonel Tibbets and the B-29 Enola Gay
5"Little Boy" is the nick name given to the atomic
bomb dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. It
was Monday morning. Little Boy was dropped from
the Enola Gay, one of the B-29 bombers that flew
over Hiroshima on that day.
6Why does the United States plan to drop the atom
bomb?
7The government hopes it will make Japan stop
fighting, which will put an end to World War II.

city is tearing down houses and building fire
lanes, which will provide avenues for
fire-fighting equipment and will serve as escape
routes for people.

author gives details about what happens to only

15He wants to give a personal account of the
effects of the bomb, rather than just a factual
explanation. Through Sachi, he is able to let
readers know what many other people were
thinking, feeling, and experiencing at the time
of the explosion.
