4The Atlanta Service Center conducted a 30 day
pilot of keyhole and found it produced favorable
results.
Benefits
- Overall process (repair and restoration) time
reduced - Less time to excavate roadway surface and base
30 minutes - Less inconvenience to vehicular traffic
- Controlled size of opening
- Circular hole prevents stress cracks due to
elimination of corners - No excavation settlement due to non-shrink
characteristics of flowable fill - Existing material (original core) replaced back
in hole no trash removal - No paving cost
- Fuel savings from higher mpg
- Regulatory favorability-city officials, DOT, GUCC
- Less physical exertion resulting in less workers
comp, 0 accidents on keyhole crew
5Benefits Comparison
6The 1st AGL keyhole!
An anode was installed and the core was properly
restored. Note the white lines allow for proper
realignment of the core to its original position.
Previous pavement cut
30 minutes after the core was restored, the
road was ready for travel. Note, the aesthetics
of the core compared to a previous pavement cut.
710 Processes Implemented
- Spotting services and mains
- Emergency squeeze off plastic
- Belljoints encapsulation
- Belljoints injection
- Small diameter leaks
- Kills - plastic
- Kills steel
- Plastic cap repair
- Anodes
- Test wires
During the 1st phase (2005), the above processes
were implemented. In 2006, we will conduct
training and implement additional processes
involving medium pressure.
8Results
- We have experienced 60 improvement in
manhours/job - We have experienced a 60 improvement in
cost/job - We save 550 on paving for every core drilled
