  • In the year 2000 the number of people in the
    world is estimated at 6.2 billion
  • 14 million children die each year before they
    reach the age of five
  • Nearly 1.5 billion people lack access to health
    care
  • 2.3 billion people lack access to sanitation
  • Over 100 million people were affected by famine
    in 1990
  • More than one quarter of the worlds people do
    not get enough food and nearly one billion go
    hungry
