What was the Civil Rights movement?

• A time when people
• became aware of racial discrimination
• protested segregation
• fought for equality of black and white

Segregation had separated black and white people

• At water fountains

At the movies

Waiting rooms

At restaurants and even bathrooms.

At first African Americans who violated these
boundaries were treated harshly but mostly sent
to jail.

Then the abuse got worse.

• Police abuse
• Hanging people
• Being beaten for no reason

Until people started to protest and stand up.

• Bus boycott
• Sit-ins
• Marches

And people who lead to make a big difference.

The Civil Rights Act was passed in 1965.
Were able to go to the same

• Schools
• Restaurants
• Movie theatres
• Bathrooms
• Etc.

So without the Civil Rights movement the world
wouldnt be as it is today.
