• Beginnings of long-term unemployment

• The economy grew by over 1.2 per annum
• Real wages grew
• People worked fewer hours and had more leisure
  time
• Smaller families
• New industries in the south and midlands areas
• Better nutrition
• Housing boom better housing stock
