When all your colleges have replied
  • You are sent a Statement of Decision Letter and
    a reply slip
  • this contains a date/deadline
  • its the last date to get your final choices in
    by
  • its different for different people
  • reply ASAP
  • miss the deadlines - lose your offers !

5
Your Replies
  • There are 3 ways that you can reply
  • Firm acceptance (F)
  • Insurance acceptance (I)
  • Decline (D)
  • Your reply will be a combination of these.

6
Your Reply
  • It can be a Firm and Insurance acceptance
  • It can be just a Firm acceptance
  • You can decline them all and go into extra and
    possibly clearing.
  • If you have a Firm Unconditional acceptance you
    cannot have an Insurance acceptance.

7
What do they mean ?
8
  • Conditional we will accept you if you get the
following grades, points etc (these are the
    conditions)
  • Unconditional we will accept you if you want to
    come.

9
Firm
  • English translation
  • Yes I really want to go here ! Offer me a place,
    please, please, pleeeeeease.

10
Firm
  • Firm - you can only accept one offer firmly.
  • You are entering a contract.
  • If you get the required grades you have to go
    there.
  • If you get the grades they have to accept you.
  • If you later change you mind you will have to
withdraw from UCAS for this year and re apply the
    year after.

11
Insurance Acceptance (I)
  • English translation
  • Yes I would like to go here if I dont get my
    first choice.
  • NB it is not I dont really want to go here but I
thought Id better put something down.
  • If you miss your firm offer but make your
conditional you are obliged to go there or
withdraw from UCAS and re apply next year.

12
Insurance Acceptance (I)
  • Insurance acceptance - your second choice
  • it should be a lower offer than your firm choice
    if possible.
  • if you miss the offer of your firm choice but
meet the conditions of your insurance you are
    guaranteed a place . but
  • you are committed to this place

13
Decline (D)
  • Get stuffed I never wanted to go to your grotty
    university anyhow !

14
How do you make your mind up?
  • Its your choice !
  • Be realistic - will you make the grades/points
  • look at your modular results
  • are you borderline ?
  • Do they accept General Studies ?
  • Ask your teachers !

15
Look at the Courses
  • What are the differences
  • Structure
  • style of delivery
  • assessment
  • content
  • which will suit you best

16
What about the place ?
  • What did it feel like ?
  • Have you been to see it - remember its a 3 to 4
    year stretch.
  • Visit the website
  • What are living costs like ?
  • Is it your sort of place ?

17
The final word
