Movies like Waiting have put the occupation of
waiting tables more in the public eye. Even
though we see waiters often, most dont
understand what all goes into their job.

The US Bureau of Labor estimated that around 2.2
million people in the United States are employed
as waiters and waitresses. Many of these being
college students trying to work their way through
college. The average annual pay of a
waiter/waitress is a mere 16,310.

Most tip based employees are paid an hourly rate
below minimum wage. In Georgia, the wage is
2.13 an hour. Thats less than half of actual
minimum wage. Those individuals paychecks are
usually always taken up by taxes.

The US alone has 215,000 restaurants within its
borders.

And most waiters and waitresses will work at a
restaurant like this

Waiting is one of the few jobs wherein people
rely on the generosity of others.

company.
