Title: The Waiting Room
1The Waiting Room

2Artists Statement Believing that art
cannot be separated from life, this installation
focuses on my relationship with my chronically
ill child, the medical community, and God.
Working with materials which have a personal
reference initiates my process of art making.
Changing scale or using contrasting elements to
convey emotional disparities is a common theme in
my work. Whether weaving, making paper,
stitching fabric, or working with light or sound,
the sensory experience is an integral part of
communicating my idea. In illness, as with
many circumstances in life, waiting seems to be
one thing you can count on waiting for your name
to be called, waiting for time to pass, waiting
to be heard, waiting for answers, waiting to be
comforted, or waiting for the strength to
continue. The Waiting Room is an interrelated
group of three-dimensional works that seeks to
share those experiences. Karen Jayne
