Introduction
  • For the noise from vehicles and tires there are
    existing limits and type-approval certification
    requirements.
  • For the noise from road surfaces there are no
    special limits existing and until now no
    type-approval certification requirements.
  • Type approval of road surfaces is a discussion
    point in Germany.

Variance of PA
  • PA in Germany has a big noise reduction potential
    up to more than 10 dB(A).
  • Unfortunately the spread in production of PA is
    also high.
  • Therefore until now the noise reduction measure
    is limited to only 5 dB(A).
  • What are the reasons for that and how can we
    overcome this problem?

New Construction Guidelines for PA
  • The best way to get better surfaces is to build
    better surfaces.
  • Material properties and construction procedures
    has to be enhanced.
  • Especially the variance of material properties
    and in construction methods should be limited
    more than it is nowadays.
  • PA will play a roll in new guidelines and
    hopefully can build in with less spread in future
    to make use of the existing potential of an extra
    noise reduction.

SILVIA-Method
  • It is planned to make use of the SILVIA-method in
    Germany (LABEL 1 and 2).
  • Especially for optimised PA the Type Approval
    and Conformity of Production methods of SILVIA
    will be used to hopefully establish an improved
    noise level for PA.
  • A research program is planned for two years and
    shall start soon.

  • The acoustical quality of road surfaces should be
    improved.
  • In special cases (PA with big variance) the
    SILVIA-procedures could be helpful.
  • The SILVIA-procedure are needed to be tested in
    practise.
