3Our Vision Service and Safety
Presentation Overview
- Aeronautical Telecommunication Network (ATN) Task
Force (TF) concluded its final meeting in 2005
adopting all recommendations of the TF and all of
its AMHS implementation documents developed for
the Asia/Pacific region to replace its aging AFTN
infrastructure - APANPIRG CNS/MET Sub-Group and APANPIRG adopted
the TF recommendation - APANPIRG also established the ATNICG in 2006 to
facilitate the AMHS transition - ATNICG held its first meeting in Seoul, Republic
of Korea in 2006 and its second meeting in Hong
Kong, China in 2007
4Asia/Pacific ICG Activities
- Coordinate AMHS implementation and transitional
issues in the Asia and Pacific Region and address
relevant system management, operational
procedures and emerging issues. - The Group is composed of experts nominated by
- Australia, China, Hong Kong, Fiji, India,
Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, Republic of Korea,
Singapore, Thailand and United States. - The Group presented its report to APANPIRG
through the CNS/MET Sub-group.

- Security
6Our Vision Service and Safety
ATNICG Tasks
- ATN Implementation Coordination
- Review of implementation problems and develop
coordinated solutions - Review States ATN/AMHS Implementation/Operational
activities and issues (member States are
expected to provide their latest implementation
status) - ATN/AMHS Implementation Planning Status
- Importance of Specifying Design Capacity and
Loading/Stress Testing of AMHS - Use of Internet for ATN/AMHS Functional and
Interoperability Testing
7Our Vision Service and Safety
ATNICG Tasks
- ATN Operational Procedures
- Develop Interim Database for Directory Services
- Develop operational database management
procedures - Pre-Operational Testing Procedures
- Update of EUR AMHS Manual related to AMHS
Conformance Testing - Draft Conclusion 2/1 - Guidance Document for AMHS
Conformance Testing
8Our Vision Service and Safety
ATNICG Tasks
- ATN Certification Validation Process
- Develop conformance procedures and checklist for
AMHS and ATN routers - Develop validation process document

9Our Vision Service and Safety
ATNICG Tasks
- ATN CONFORMANCE DOCUMENT AND CHECKLIST
- Describes the standard checklist required to
ensure interconnectivity and interoperability.
The document was adapted with a baseline from the
Eurocontrol Conformance Document. The adaptation
of the Eurocontrol Manual focuses on the use of
AMHS with an additional ATN router testing
procedure which was developed based on the router
testing and trials conducted between Hong Kong
China and Japan. - The ATN Conformance Document will cover the
system level testing for AMHS and ATN router
necessary for interoperability and
interconnectivity as an initial step based on
existing technical provisions. Technologies such
as the adoption of Internet Protocol (IP) are
proposed to be addressed in later revisions. The
structure of the documenst would be as follows - AMHS Conformance Document
- Annex A - Guidelines on Quality of Service (QOS)
- Annex B - AMHS Conformance Test and Checklist
- Annex C ATN Router Test and Checklist

ATNICG Tasks
- ATN Service Enhancements
- Review the impact of the implementation of
Directory Services in the Region - Development of profiles for the directory access
and exchange protocols (Ref. Decision 7/9) - Study the use of IP
- Consider related ICAO standards (e.g. 9880) to
compliment ICAO Doc. 9705 to adopt IP. Meanwhile,
effort within major hubs in Asia/Pac region (e.g.
Singapore, Thailand, Pakistan, India, etc) to
interface with European and other regions using
IP will be utilized. - Study and analyze for transition to BUFR code
- Study and analyze for transition of AFTN-based
AIDC to ATN environment
