2Choosing a Name for the Town
- In 1827 the first group of settlers in the area
gathered to decide on a name for the town. - The first name proposed was Peking in honor of
the Chinese city, but later this name was not
chosen.

3And the Name is
- After the name Peking was overthrown, two more
choices remained. - LeRoy, but that name had been already used, and
Plymouth. - They decided on Plymouth in honor of Plymouth,
Massachusetts where many of the settlers migrated
from.
