Choosing a Name for the Town

• In 1827 the first group of settlers in the area
  gathered to decide on a name for the town.
• The first name proposed was Peking in honor of
  the Chinese city, but later this name was not
  chosen.

And the Name is

• After the name Peking was overthrown, two more
  choices remained.
• LeRoy, but that name had been already used, and
  Plymouth.
• They decided on Plymouth in honor of Plymouth,
  Massachusetts where many of the settlers migrated
  from.
