Prepare

• Institutional registration is completed
• Register in the commons
• Keep profile updated
• Validation during proposal submission process

Find

• Download funding announcement
• Grants.gov or the NIH Guide
• Click on how to apply or apply for grant
  electronically
• Do not use old application saved to desktop
• Complete all forms as required

PI Submit

• Click check for errors and make corrections
• Complete application upload to file transfer
  protocol listed on Step by Step handout
• Name file
• PIs last name
• Agency name
• Funding Opportunity Announcement
• Title/ key identification word (if more than one
  submission

SRS Expectation

• File forwarded to SRS is in its final form
  (including the science) and ready for submission
  once Authorized Official approves
• No delay of submission for last minute changes to
  science

SRS Review contd

• Download files from server
• Click on check for errors
• If errors returns w/o review
• Review each file uploaded (up to 20)
• Correct minor errors
• Develop list of necessary changes

SRS Review

• Send requested changes to department
• Process starts over
• Print document (very labor intensive)
• Assemble application
• Forward to Authorized Official (AO)

Grants.gov Submit

• GA pushes submit button
• Grants.gov sends submission receipt if error free
  (48 hours)
• UC AO can see status of proposal
• Grantor retrieves application (24 hours)

• Email notification sent (tracking )
• Check in commons email can be unreliable
• Errors found AO gets email (24 hours)
