20Additional Steps To Be Taken
- Utilize the stimulus money to offset the general
fund costs in Delton Kellogg. - Survey the staff and community to determine
priorities. - Schedule additional visits with legislators.
- Thank you Stephanie Stevens, Dee DeFields, Gail
Hill, and Audrey Gillig for traveling to Lansing
to meet personally with our legislators! - Continue to reduce expenditures, find revenue
sources, and redesign our district. - Pass a Board Resolution in Support of Funding For
Education (November 16, 2009).
21Sonow what? DKS need your help!
- Contact legislators and the Governor to tell them
to - raise the 100million necessary to balance to
School Aid budget you passed. - Use the remaining stimulus money to fill the
shortfall. - Fix the structural school funding problem
(revenues and reform) and provide students with
the level of education that can only come with a
stable and predictable school funding source.
22Sonow what? (Continued)
- Comments for legislators continued
- We expect Lansing to take action that will find a
long range systemic solution to the state budget
problems. - The DKS have made the tough decisions needed to
address the declining revenues in our school
district, but it can not sustain the level of
funding decreases being proposed. - Imposing a reduction of nearly 3.4 of our total
budget one third of the way into the fiscal year
is unacceptable. - The economic viability of our community at-large
is dependent on the existence of the school
district. The School District is the hub of the
community.
23Sonow what? (Continued)
- Complete the survey to indicate your priorities
and provide the Board with suggestions for future
reductions. - Sign the SOS! Petition to Save Our Students, Save
Our Schools and Save Our State - Take home a copy of the videos presented today to
share with neighbors and others who were not able
to attend. -
242009 Budget Survey
25Sonow what? (Continued)
- Support the organizations that provide assistance
to the school district (PIE, Athletic Boosters,
Band Boosters, etc.) - Share the good news about the opportunities our
students enjoy (Odyssey of the Mind, Battle of
the Books, Chess Club, Spelling Bee, Band
Competitions, Athletics, Mackinac Island Trip,
International Travel Opportunities, etc.) - Show others how we are outperforming our
neighboring districts and many districts in
Michigan (MME/ACT scores). - Show others how we take care of our students and
embrace the concept that it takes a village to
raise a child. - Donate time, talents, or funding to special
projects the 21st century classroom project,
technology enhancements, etc.
