NAACP
  • The NAACP was founded by Mary White Ovington and
    W.E.B. Dubois helped found it.
  • NAACP stands for National Association for the
    Advancement of Colored People.
  • Its purpose is to bring equality to almost every
    state in the U.S. and to brush out the
    discriminations in the U.S. states.

The Montgomery Bus Boycott
  • The Montgomery Bus Boycott officially started on
    December 1, 1955
  • The incident that sparked it was Mrs. Rosa Parks
    refusal to move out of a seat.
  • The boycott was a collective of response to
    decades of intimidation, harassment, and
    discrimination of Alabamas African American
    population.

  • Supreme Court ruled in favor of separate areas
    for blacks and whites as long as they were equal.
  • The ruling resulted in a major setback in the
    struggle for equality between races in the U.S.

  • In the early 1950s, racial segregation in public
    schools was the norm across America.
  • Although all the schools in a given district were
    supposed to be equal, most black schools were far
    inferior to their white counterparts.

    over 250,000 participants
  • The March on Washington reasoning was for jobs
    and freedom for African Americans.

    Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
  • No evidence matched to James
  • This assassination took place on April 4,1968 at
    601 pm at Motel Lorraine in Memphis, TN.
  • James was sentence to life in prison.
