hormones) works with the reproductive system?
  • True or FalseTHC can cause a male to become
    sterile.
  • What is a leading type of cancer among younger
males, which relates to the reproductive system?
  • What is a leading type of cancer among older

Functions of MRS
  • What are the 3 main functions of the male
    reproductive system?
  • 1.) Produces the male sex hormone
  • testosterone

3
How does this happen? During puberty, the 2
gonadotropins(remember that term from the
video)??? are released from the Pituitary
glandat the base of the brain. These
gonadotropins are called FSH and LH. FSHFollicle
Stimulating Hormone LHLutenizing Hormone One of
the 2 gonadotropinsLH stimulates the Leydig
cells to produce testosterone. (testosterone is
one of two androgens, therefore it causes
masculinization)
4
Functions of the MRS, cont
  • 2.) Produces the male sex cell
  • sperm
  • How does this happen?
  • FSHin conjunction with testosterone, will
stimulate sperm production in the seminiferous
    tubules
  • Sperm will then be stored and mature is the
    epididymis

5
Functions of the MRS, cont
  • 3.) Transports sperm to female for reproduction
  • Some useless knowledge about sperm
  • about 100million/day are produced
  • 500 lined up1
  • they survive in temp slightly lower than body
    temp. (98.6)
  • when core body temp increases, scrotum relaxes
  • when core body temp decreases, scrotum contracts
  • Sperm are produced in the _______________ and
    stored in the _____________________ ?

6
Ejaculation process
  • Tube where sperm travel to urethra.
  • Whats a vasectomy?
  • Releases a fluid high in fructose to help sperm
    swim
  • Has prostaglandins to aid in uterine muscle
    contractions
  • Releases fluid to neutralize acidic environment
  • Can enlarge as men get older.
  • Prostate cancer !!! PSA
  • Provides lubrication
  • Vas Deferens
  • Seminal Vesicle
  • Prostate Gland
  • Cowpers Gland
  • (Bulbourethral)

7
Problems and care of the MRS
  • Problems
  • 1.) Inguinal Hernia
  • 2.) Sterility (chemicals, body temp).
  • 3.) Enlarged Prostate (urination problems)
  • 4.) CancersProstate, Testicular
  • 5.) STDs (bacterial, viral)
  • Care
  • 1.) Loose clothingonly wear tight clothing
    when active
  • 2.) Dont smoke pot !
