• Zonta International is a global organization of
  executives and professionals working together to
  advance the status of women worldwide through
  service and advocacy.

• Formed in New York in 1919
• Zonta and the United Nations
• Nearly 33000 members in more than 1200 clubs in
  67 countries and geographic areas.

• Prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission in
  Rwanda (UNICEF, US600,000)
• Safe Cities for Women Project in Guatemala City,
  Guatemala and San Salvador, El Salvador (UNIFEM,

• Reduction of Obstetric Fistula in Liberia (UNFPA,
  US450,000)

• 70 percent of the 1.3 billion poor are women. 
• Two-thirds of illiterate adults are women and
  two-thirds of children not in school are girls.
• 60 million women are "missing" because of
  gender-based violence.
• Every year an estimated 4 million women and girls
  are bought and sold worldwide.
• Today, 7,000 women and girls will contract HIV.

  women young women 15 to 24 are more than three
  times as likely to be infected as young men.

• About 530,000 women die annually in pregnancy or
