DESCRIPTION ABOUT THE CASE
  • Case No. -243
  • Date of Appointment-11-05-2022
  • Species -Swine
  • Breed -Yorkshire
  • Sex -Female
  • Age -1 month old.
  • Body weight-4.5kg.
  • Colour -White

HAEMATOMA-A brief
  • Haematoma or Blood suffusion or Othematoma is a
    localised bleeding outside the blood vessels.
  • It may also defined as accumulation of blood in
    the tissue due to rupture of blood vessels.
  • In animals,haematoma arises usually arises from
    trauma particularly over the shoulders,flanks or
    the hind quarters.
  • Most common in dog,cat and pigs.
  • Classification of haematoma are
  • 1.Subdural haematoma (under the skin)
  • 2.Intramascular haematoma (inside muscle
    tissue)
  • 3.Subgaleal haematoma (in brain)
  • 4.Breast haematoma (breast)
  • 5.Perichondral haematoma (ear)
  • 6.Perianal haematoma (anus)
  • 7.Subungual haematoma (nail)

ETIOLOGY OF HAEMATOMA-
  • Trauma and injuries are the most common causes.
  • It may be also due to allergies,falls,
    aneurysms,bone fracture.
  • In pigs,infestation with mange mites and lice may
    cause haematoma.
  • In our case, the animal is injured with a sharp
    object.

ANAMNESIS-
  • Injury due to trauma
  • Swelling on the lumbar region.
  • Fluid filled accumulation.
  • Blood colour fluid was evacuated.
  • Normal urination,appetite and defecation.

DIAGNOSIS-
  • 1.History
  • 2.Clinical signs
  • 3.Physical examination

REQUIREMENTS FOR TREATMENT-
  • 1.Gauge bandage
  • 2.Povidine Iodine Solution (Betadine)
  • 3.NS Solution
  • 4.Ceftriazone (Antibiotic)
  • 5.Melonex (NSAIDs)
  • 6.Artery forceps
  • 7.Himax ointment

Requirements-
Gauze Bandage
Artery Forcep

  • Site of Haematoma

TREATMENT-
  • 1.Clean and shave the affected area
  • 2.The haematoma is punctured manually and the
    haematomal contents are evacuated.

  • 3.Flush with Normal Saline solution.
  • 4.We then flushed the cavity with Povidone iodine
    solution using syringe.
  • 5.Setoning done with gauge bandage and PI
    solution.

  • 6.Application of Himax antiseptic ointment on the
    periphery of the wound
  • 7.Cover the wound with bandage.

  • 8.Inj.Intacef- 50mg I/M for 5 days
  • 9.Inj. Melonex- 0.4ml I/M for 3 days
  • 10.Tab Serra_at_1 tab OD orally for 10 days

Intramascular administration of Ceftriaxone and
Meloxicam

Dressing on 13-05-2022-

ADVICE-
  • 1.Daily dressing by owner or expert
  • 2.To cover the wound with bandage after dressing
    with NS and Povidone iodine
  • 3.Apply oint. Himax over the wound area
    regularly.
  • 4.Proper housing and management.
  • 5.Report at clinics after 10 days (i.e. on
    22-05-2022)
