One of the main characteristics of Maratea is the

spectacular with the final hairpin bends resting
on piers with a few meters in height

Starting from Maratea the road is 6.7 km. Over
this distance the elevation gain is 376m. The
average percentage is 5,61. The road
includes 18 hairpin turns. Go only when
the weather is great. Otherwise, you won't

In summer, for the strong influx of tourists is
limited access by car to a parking lot a few
hundred meters from the summit, at a place called
Madonna della Pietà (Our Lady of Mercy), from
where a shuttle bus takes visitors to the
Basilica of San Biagio and the Christ

1965 was designed by Bruno Innocenti
(1906-1996) of the Institute of Fine Arts in
Florence and was commissioned by the
Count Stefano Rivetti of Valcervo as a
tribute to the people of Maratea

Christ is visible from all around the Gulf of
Policastro and, thanks to the will of Count
Stefano Rivetti, has attracted over the years
countless numbers of people. The Redeemer is the
real pride of Maratea. There is no person
visiting the Gulf of Policastro who does not
look up at the old Maratea village and not feel
attracted and invited to climb on top to see the
glorious beauty and reality of this immense work
that, with the passing of days, is increasingly
assuming the character and the recognition of
undisputed internationality
