2Wuhan is the capital of Hubei Province in the
People's Republic of China. It is the largest
city in Hubei and the most populous city in
Central China, with a population of over 11
million. The name "Wuhan" came from the city's
historical origin from the conglomeration of
Wuchang, Hankou and Hanyang, which are
collectively known as the "Three Towns of Wuhan".
It lies in the eastern Jianghan Plain, at the
confluence of the Yangtze river and its largest
tributary, the Han River and is known as "Nine
Provinces' Thoroughfare"

from the famous poem written by Cui Hao
(704-754), a poet in the Tang, i.e. "By sun-lit
river trees can be counted one by one, on Parrot

railway The line is part of the 2230-km long
BeijingGuangzhouShenzhenHong Kong high-speed
railway. Since the railway line opened ten years
ago, it has transported 500 million passengers
and provided over 500000 train services. Chinas
high-speed railway system connects more than 300
cities across China, including Beijing, Shanghai
and Guangzhou. Over 16,000 km long, China boasts
the largest high-speed train network in the
world. With speeds of up to 300 km/h, train
travel in China is a fast, convenient, cheap and
comfortable option. China Railways G-Class
operates a train from Beijing West Station to
Wuhan hourly. Tickets cost 60 - 85 and the

28Hankou Customs was founded in November 1681 due
to treaties between Qing Dynasty government and
British government. On January 21, 1924,
Jianghan Customs House was founded. It has a
total area of 1,499 quare meters, with area of
structure 4,099 quare meters. It has height of
46.3 meters, and the top of bell tower is 83.8
meter above ground level, thus made it the
highest building in Wuhan at that time. Now, it
was re-opened and renamed "Jianghan Customs
Museum", on December 28, 2015
