Ensuring Clean and Safe Rainwater with Proper
Filtration
Rainwater is a precious resource that can be
collected, cleaned, and used for a variety of
purposes. It can also be used for drinking, but
only after a thorough cleaning to get rid of the
dirt, germs, and pollutants. Collected rainwater
can contain bacteria, viruses, chemicals, etc.,
especially in urban regions. Choosing the right
rainwater filtration method is vital to ensuring
clean and safe results.

Steps to Clean Rainwater
Rainwater collection and filtration is much more
than placing a random container or digging a pit.
It is a systematic process with multiple steps.
While you can use DIY home filtration systems
like sand, gravel, etc., they may not be
effective. Collect Rainwater in a Clean
Container Use a clean container, preferably a
metal pot (non-rusty), to collect the rainwater
rushing through the drainpipes from the roof. A
pit will also do, but keep it clean and free of
dirt and have a plumbing system to transport the
rainwater to another place/ pot. Sedimentation Wh
ile there are various rainwater
filtration techniques like roof washers, first
flush diverters, sand filters, etc., its up to
you to choose the most convenient method based on
the property layout, amount of rainwater
collected, and budget. Sedimentation is the
easiest way. Let the collected rainwater sit idle
for a few hours/ days. The particles will sink
and settle at the bottom, leaving clear water
above. However, you still need to filter this
water to remove tiny particles that don't sink.

Harnessing Rainwater Harvesting A
Solution to Combat Water Pollution
Water is essential for life it is a precious
resource that supports living creatures to
survive on earth. Unfortunately, most of the
world's water bodies are under the siege from the
various sources of pollution, which ranges from
the industrial discharges to the agricultural
run-off. Water pollution is one of the major
threats to our environment and the public health.
There is a need for instant solutions. One of the
most sustainable and effective method to overcome
this situation is rainwater harvesting. Further,
we will discuss more about the terrible effects
of water pollution and explore more into how
rainwater harvesting can help to overcome this
issue, by ensuring the availability of clean and
safe water for the better future.

Rainwater Harvesting An Innovative Solution
- What is Rainwater Harvesting?
- Rainwater harvesting is a simple but very
innovative technique that involves the collection
and storage of the rainwater for the various
purposes. It primarily includes the capturing of
the rainwater from the rooftops, which is then
stored in the tanks or the reservoirs for the
later use. This is one of the sustainable
practices which not only helps to conserve water
but also it helps to mitigate water pollution. - 2. Advantage of Rainwater Harvesting
- Rainwater harvesting offers us various benefits
- Reduced water bills Harvested rainwater can be
used for the non-potable purposes such as
gardening, washing cars and even for washing
clothes. Which significantly helps to reduce our
dependency on the municipal water sources and
lowering the water bills. - .

Ways to Save Rain Water
It's that time of the year when the heavens start
pouring in and you start thinking of conserving
this precious water. If you live in an area that
gets lots of rain annually, start looking for
ways to save this salt-free source that you can
use for watering plants, cleaning floors and
washing utensils. Rainwater harvesting involves
collecting water directly from the surface on
which it falls, like a courtyard or terrace of a
building or an unpaved region like an open ground
or lawn. Here, we will have a look at 10 best
ways to save rain water. Rooftop Rainwater
Harvesting Rooftop rainwater harvesting involves
creating a small channel which connects rainwater
on the rooftop to a storage tank. Further,
filters are installed to keep stored rain water
hygienic and clean. The stored rainwater in the
catchment area of the roof is either transferred
to an artificial recharge system or a tank. The
filter separates all kinds of debris and dirt
from the water effectively.
