3 facts about Pseudomonas aeruginosa

What is Pseudomonas aeruginosa?
  • The bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa, also known
as P. aeruginosa, is rod-shaped and
gram-negative. It is present in all types of
    vegetation, water, and soil.
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa is also present in the
typical human microbiota and rarely causes
infections in healthy people. It is recognised as
the most prevalent pathogen responsible for
    nosocomial infections, nevertheless.

3 facts about Pseudomonas aeruginosa
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa was initially discovered
by Carle Gessard in 1882 from wound infections in
soldiers whose bandages were blue and green in
    colour.
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa is known for producing the
    pyocyanin pigment, a water-soluble blue-green
    phenazine molecule.
  • Skin diseases including hot tub rash and
swimmer's ear, which manifest after coming into
contact with water polluted with germs, are
    caused by P. aeruginosa.
