On 24 February 2022, Russia invaded and occupied
parts of Ukraine in a major escalation of
the Russo-Ukrainian War, which began in 2014.
Ukraine's Revolution of Dignity, Russia annexed
Crimea from Ukraine and supported pro-Russian
separatists fighting the Ukrainian military in
the Donbas War. The first eight years of conflict
also included naval incidents, cyberwarfare, and
heightened political tensions. Russian troops
retreated from the northern front by April. In
March and April 2021, Russia began a major
military build-up near the Russo-Ukrainian
border. A second build-up followed from October
2021 to February 2022, in both Russia and
Belarus. The main infantry and tank attacks were
launched in four spearhead incursions, creating a
northern front launched towards Kyiv, a southern
front originating in Crimea, a south-eastern
front launched at the cities of Luhansk and
Donbas, and an eastern front

escalated tensions between the two countries and
strained their bilateral relations, eventually
leading to Russia initiating a full-scale

supplies are often concentrated in a handful of
