Situational Awareness Training for Employees with
Alifesaved
Situational awareness safety training is a
crucial component of occupational safety
education. Active shooter training educates you
to pay attention to the behavior of those around
you and your surroundings. Our situational
awareness training is a proactive, option-based
active shooter response training program
validated by evidence. It gives people the skills
they need to help themselves survive in the face
of violence. Although they are uncommon, such
threats do occur. And when an incident takes
place, such risky circumstances demand the
correct response. This means there are only so
many effective ways to handle an emergency.
2
  • What is situational awareness?
  •
  • Being fully aware of your surroundings is
referred to as situational awareness. Take note
of the surroundings, the people, the sounds, the
smells, and the energy. It comes down to being
    present.
  • An essential lesson of situational awareness in
the workplace is to take any warning of danger
seriously so that you can respond appropriately
    if a threat arises.
  •
  • The Situational Awareness Training with
    AlifeSaved comprises four main categories
  •
  • Prevention
  • Preparation
  • Orientation
  • Reaction

3
PREVENTION   We work with organizations to
improve anti-harassment policies and add a
requirement for reporting affirmative actions.
Employee identification and reporting of
behavioral patterns that stray from the
predefined baseline toward potentially violent
behavior are part of this threat assessment
process. The outcome of these inquiries shouldn't
be a punitive action. A team or body should be
established within the company to investigate and
document behavior-based safety. As valuable
company members, such employees should be given
the resources necessary for remediation through
an employee support program.   PREPARATION   Time
is a crucial component of our approach to
preparing for such situations. The victims are
left alone during the brief period between the
start of a workplace violence incident and the
arrival of the first responders. Law enforcement
will start acting once someone else calls local
authorities and recognizes the incident for what
it is. At ALS, we describe the scenario with the
abbreviation YOYO, which stands for YOU'RE ON
YOUR OWN. We aim to enable people to make choices
that will considerably increase their odds of
surviving an event like this by ensuring they are
sufficiently prepared for it.
4
ORIENTATION Time is of the essence, but once
people are correctly oriented toward the event,
important safety decisions can be made. The
sooner the employees become aware of what is
going on, the faster they may decide what to do
for their protection and do it. People may need a
few seconds to several minutes to comprehend the
information and become aware that a violent
incident is taking place. If there is a delay,
there may be fewer chances of survival. Our
threat assessment training is programmed to help
people orient themselves to the situation for
what it is and make quick, well-informed
decisions.   REACTION   We take a different
approach to reactive strategies for workplace
violence and refer to our response campaign as
ABC.   A - AVOID  B- BARRICADE C- CONFRONT
5
AVOID   It means to avoid the offender by making
tactically sound decisions rather than reacting
in a panic. It is crucial to assess the
perpetrator's activity (what they are doing) and
location to avoid them (where they are). We can
make wise judgments to protect our lives and the
lives of others once we are equipped with this
knowledge.   BARRICADE   It means to avoid the
offender by making tactically sound decisions
rather than reacting in a panic. It is crucial to
assess the perpetrators activity (what they are
doing) and location to avoid them (where they
are). We can make reasoned judgments to protect
our lives and the lives of others once we are
equipped with this knowledge.   CONFRONT   If a
potential victim lacks the resources to apply the
avoid or barricade techniques, we think
unrestricted confrontation with improvised
weapons should only be used as a last choice. Our
situation awareness training program emphasizes
that confronting the attacker should always be
the last option.
6
CONCLUSION   Your organization's active threat
response program must include situational
awareness as a critical element. All of these
topics and more are covered in our training
curriculum. We provide our clients with a
selection of courses to address specific
problems. To respond to new issues and take
preventative measures to prevent and mitigate
problems in the future, we have more training
topics like Table Top Exercises, Scenario Based
Training, and Situational Consulting. To book
