2Intro One reason adults often look for a dentist
in Miami is that their wisdom teeth are creating
a problem. Some even take a pre-emptive strike
and remove their wisdom teeth before it can
create any problem. If you are also in the dark
regarding what exactly is your wisdom and why you
need to take special care of it, then here is all
the important information you need.
3Lets start our journey towards wisdom What is
a wisdom tooth? Wisdom teeth also known as
third molar are the last teeth that come up in
a human. There are four of them, and unlike our
other teeth, they dont come up in childhood but
in late teens or early adulthood. For some, their
wisdom teeth may never come up.

5Why do we have these teeth? Third molar or
wisdom teeth is a remnant of the time when our
ancestors used to eat raw food. Molars are meant
to chew raw food and cut them into bite-sized
pieces for swallowing. With the evolution and the
introduction of cooked food, the function of
these teeth was diminished. Today, we dont need
this type of molar teeth anymore. Does everyone
have 4 of them? No, not everyone has 4 wisdom
teeth. Some may have two or three or some may
even have 1 or 0.

7Why do they cause problems? Our jaws can
accommodate a fixed number of teeth it can be 28
or 32. So, any teeth like wisdom teeth that come
up late will have to fight for real estate on
your gum. That results in either misalignment or
erupting sideways or creating overcrowding in
your mouth. Even if they come up perfectly, the
fact that they are placed deep in your gums means
they are not cleaned properly which leads to
infection or tooth decay.

9So, should we preemptively remove wisdom
teeth? Since wisdom teeth are not needed, and
keeping them means getting dental issues, most
Miami dentists will advise you to preemptively
remove your wisdom teeth even if they are perfect
now. The best time to do so is when you are aged
15 or 16 because a dental x-ray done at this age
will show whether the teeth are coming up or not.
Removing at an earlier age is easy because the
teeth are half-formed and have small roots. The
bones around it are softer as are the large
capsule of tissues surrounding it.
10- How do I know my wisdom teeth are coming up?
-
- If you go for regular dental check-ups, your
dentist will let you know about this. If you
dont go regularly, then these are the signs that
say your wisdom teeth are coming up and will be
an issue if - You have bleeding or tender gums
- Swollen red gums
- Discomfort or pain in your jaws
- Bad breath that does not go away even with good
dental habits - Difficult in eating, as well as opening your
mouth - Constant headache
- Unpleasant taste
-
- So, these are some of the important things you
need to know about wisdom teeth. Hope this helps
in deciding whether you or any of your family
members needs to see a doctor for this.
