How age is related to Heart Disease?
The elderly population and the ageing people are
particularly more respectable to cardiovascular
diseases, age play's a major role and is an
independent risk factor for the cardiovascular
diseases in adults. Some of the most common
problems which comes along with the ageing is
hypertension obesity and diabetes. All these
factors can enhance and complicate the cardiac
risk factors. It is seen that in both men and
women the rest that is associated with the
cardiovascular diseases increase with age and
also it corresponds to an overall decline in the
sex hormones that is primarily of oestrogen and
testosterone.
Age plays a vital role in deterioration of the
cardiovascular functionality and the heart health
which results in an increased risk of
cardiovascular diseases in older people. It is
also seen that the prevalence of cardiovascular
diseases has been shown to increase with the
increase in age both in male and female, it also
includes the prevalence of arteriosclerosis,
myocardial infarction and stroke. The risk
factors that have been linked to the development
of cardiovascular diseases are hypertension,
diabetes and obesity.
3
Age and heart problems-
People who are 65 and older are much more likely
to suffer from heart diseases or stroke then the
younger people, the most common heart problem
that comes along with age is the coronary heart
disease and heart failure. Aging is the main
cause of changes in heart and blood vessels. As
we get older the heart can't beat as fast during
the physical activity or at time of stress in
comparison to the younger people. All the changes
that happens along with age can increase the risk
of heart diseases and the major cause of heart
disease is the fatty build-up deposits In The
Wall of arteries over many years.
4
There are many functional changes that comes
along with the aging adults that can affect the
heart, the most common problems that has been
characterized which comes along with the age
includes systolic and diastolic dysfunction,
electrical dysfunction, atrial fibrillation and
development of arrhythmias, collectively all the
mentioned problems can result in a high
prevalence of heart failure.  Bihar prevalence of
cardiovascular diseases in the aging adult has
been linked to many factors which includes
oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis and
overall myocardial deterioration and
degeneration.
There are many other changes to the heart that
comes along with the age-
  • There might be an increase in the size of heart
chambers, the wall of heart Thickens down and the
amount of blood that can be hold by chamber
decreases despite the increased overall heart
size. Due to this the heart feels more slowly,
hypertension is the main cause of increased in
the thickness of walls of heart which can
increase the risk of atrial fibrillation.
  • With the increase in the age people become more
susceptible to Salt which can cause increase in
the blood pressure for ankle or foot swelling.

5
There are many electrical changes that comes
along with age that can lead to Arrythmias, in
which there is a rapid, slowed, irregular
heartbeat,  the heart walls may become thicker
and stiff due to the stiffness in the walls of
heart the blood flow of the heart becomes leaky
which can cause buildup of the fluid in the lungs
or in the other body parts.
6
Preventing heart diseases in old ages-
  • Exercise daily- exercising daily play a major
role in preventing heart diseases in older ages,
exercising or increased activity level can help
you to to prevent any fatty build up in the
arteries, and proper blood flow to the heart.
exercising for at least 30 minutes a day keeps
the heart healthy and helps it to pump and beat
    properly.
  • Quit smoking- smoking is a main cause of heart
diseases and is a leading cause of preventable
death, smoking can lead to damage of arterial
wall of heart which can lead to to Heart attack
and heart failure anytime. Quitting smoking can
lead to lower down the risk of heart disease
stroke and cancer over the time.
  • Follow healthy diet- follow a healthy diet to
live a happy life, try to consume food that are
low in trans and saturated fats, extra added
sugars and salt, eating proper amount of micros
and macros can help you to lower down the risk of
heart diseases as it will help you to maintain
proper conditioning of the body. Try to eat
plenty of fruits vegetables and foods that are
    rich in fibre.

7

of what you eat and drink, maintaining a healthy
weight can help to prevent heart disease as no
extra stress would be given to heart to pump the
blood, being physically active and exercising
regularly can help you to maintain a healthy
