Drywall damage can vary from a small crack to a
large hole. No matter the size of the damage,
these can be fixed in easy and an inexpensive
manner. Yes, installing drywall at home or
office is easy and affordable, especially if
compared to the other construction and building
materials. Needless to say, these are the primary
reasons drywall has become a popular choice for
people nowadays. Although the process involved in
repairing a drywall is simple and clean, you
might require help of drywall contractors because
they are the experts in the field and have deep
understanding of their subject. Depending on the
size, type and the place of damage, we will now
discuss the ways to handle and repair it. If not
repaired on time, you may have to get the whole
drywall re-installed. So, to prevent you from
burning a hole in your pocket, contact Vancouver
drywall contractor and get your drywall repaired
as soon as possible. Meanwhile, let us look into
the ways to repair cracks and holes in the
drywall.

Surface Crack Repair
Drywall has a seamless paper covering that rarely
gets splits and cracks. However, if a crack
appears, it would usually be on a seam where the
two drywall sheets meet. So, a crack on the
surface can easily be fixed. If the crack is
somewhere on horizontal or vertical seam, just
widen the crack to check if it has extended
completely through the paper or not. Do this
activity either with the help of utility knife,
paint scraper, or chisel. After widening the
crack look whether the tape is intact or not. If
the tape is intact, it means the crack was
probably caused by the old drywall because of
drying and shrinking. Now, just fill up the
crack with the new compound. Allow the joint
compound to dry and eventually sand the
area. Clean the area, wipe away the dust and
paint that portion. We would recommend you to
seek help of a professional drywall contractor.

Deep Crack Repair
  • Deep crack means a crack that runs past the paper
tape of the drywall seam. When the crack
penetrates deep and extends through the paper
tape of the drywall seam, just gently remove the
tape by not tearing away the drywalls paper
covering. Scrap away the loose compound and
replace the crack with the new joint compound.
Apply the thin layer and while the joint compound
is still wet, place fiberglass tape over the
seam and bridge the gap between both the ends.
Wait for the compound to dry up, add another
thin layer and cover the surface. Paint it after
wiping away the dust and your deep crack is gone.

Small Hole Repair
The holes that are not larger than 6" might not
require much efforts. All that you need is to
adhere the patch to the wall and then cover the
drywall with the compound. You would require
creating a hole for the ones that do not extend
to studs on either side. Measure it and cut a
scrap piece of the drywall larger than the size
of the hole and place it on the damaged area.
Trim the extra paper and rough edges. Place
fiberglass tape on the patched area. Cover the
entire area with a thin coat of drywall compound.
Repeat next steps just like the ones mentioned
above.

Large Section Repairs
  • The large holes and the big cracks would require
extensive repair process. Before you start
cutting into the wall, make sure the path is
clear. Find the stud, mark them with the help of
electric stud finder. While you cut away the
drywall, just be careful of the studs. Remove as
much drywall as needed. Discard it and remove all
the exposed screws and nails. Install wood
cleats against the studs and support the new
drywalls vertical edges. Make sure you measure,
cut, and then install the new drywall. The
drywall should match the thickness of the
original wall. Use tools such as drywall skewers
to attach the drywall. Tape the joint and
finally apply the joint compound as described in
the above procedures. Getting a drywall repaired
at the earliest would prove to be beneficial. If
you think the processes above explained are easy
to follow, then you may want to consider this
