Introduction To Cancer
2
Cancer diagnosis
  • It is essential to diagnose cancer early and with
certainty. Different modalities are used for
cancer diagnosis. Some of them are imaging, some
requires tissue or cells from the tumor specimen,
and some requires other ancillary tests.

3
Cancer Treatment
  • There are many types of cancer treatment. The
types of treatment that you have will depend on
the type of cancer you have and how advanced it
is. Some people with cancer will have only one
treatment. But most people have a combination of
treatments, such as surgery with chemotherapy and/
or radiation therapy. You may also have
    immunotherapy,  targeted therapy, or hormone
    therapy.

4
Second Opinion on Cancer Diagnosis
  • Advancements in cancer care are happening at an
unprecedented rate, and it is not any different
in the case of the cancer diagnosis. Cancer is a
complex disease and depending solely on the
primary diagnosis may not be a great idea. Going
for a second opinion on the available diagnosis
before proceeding with the treatment could make a
    huge difference.
  • A second opinion is a medical process wherein the
    primary physicians cancer diagnosis and
treatment plans are reviewed by another
specialist or a group of specialists.

5
Cancer screening
  • Cancer screening aims to detect cancer before
symptoms appear. This may involve blood
tests, urine tests, DNA tests, other tests,
or medical imaging. The benefits of screening in
terms of cancer prevention, early detection and
subsequent treatment must be weighed against any
    harms.

6
Cancer prevention
  • Cancer prevention is action taken to lower the
risk of getting cancer. This can include
    maintaining a healthy lifestyle, avoiding
exposure to known cancer-causing substances, and
taking medicines or vaccines that can prevent
    cancer from developing.

7
Cancer Genetic Screening
  • Cancer Genetic Screening helps estimate your
chance of developing cancer in your lifetime. It
does this by searching for specific changes in
your genes, chromosomes, or proteins. These
    changes are called mutations.
  • Genetic tests are available for some types of
    cancer. These include
  • Breast cancer
  • Ovarian cancer
  • Colon cancer
  • Thyroid cancer
  • Prostate cancer
  • Pancreatic cancer
  • Melanoma
  • Sarcoma
  • Kidney cancer
  • Stomach cancer
