Title: Things you need to know about muscle soreness
1Things you need to know about muscle soreness
2Not all soreness is the same
Muscle soreness is a common phenomenon
experienced by most individuals after a strenuous
physical activity. However, there are two types
based on the time after which you experience
soreness. Immediate or Acute Muscle Soreness
(AMS) is the pain felt during and immediately
after the physical activity whereas Delayed Onset
Muscle Soreness (DOMS) is the pain felt after 24
hours.
3No pain, No gain
You can experience both kinds of pain while you
workout. However, you need not do much about
muscle pain relief. Working out consistently and
gradually increasing the intensity of your
workout can help in reducing the frequency of
muscle soreness.
Anti-inflammatory foods over pain-killers
Some over the counter (OTC) drugs may be helpful
in relieving pain, but it is not recommended to
take pain-killers. Anti-inflammatory foods like
watermelon, pineapple, and ginger can actually
help reduce soreness in the long run. They are
loaded with antioxidants which are beneficial for
the human body
4When in pain, heat it.
One can use heat immediately after working out to
reduce the chances of muscle soreness. Heat
loosens the muscles that makes a person feel
relaxed. For heat therapy, you can use a warm
napkin, a wet heating pack or an electric hot
water bag.
Cold does what heat cant
If youve tried heat and are still experiencing
pain, its time you give pain a cold shoulder.
Cold therapy can help block pain signals and give
your muscles some time to heal without the pain.
If youre using a back pain gel, make sure its
not heat-based. Cold-based products are effective
and really helpful.
